Becoming a member of LTA

Membership of Louisiana Trans Advocates (LTA) is open to any transgender, nonbinary*, or gender nonconforming (this could include questioning) person age 13 or older who is either:

  • living in Louisiana, or

  • a former resident of Louisiana who retains close ties to the state or LTA, or

  • living in Mississippi, Arkansas, or Texas if an LTA chapter is the closest trans social support resource.

Anyone who meets the above geographic eligibility requirements and who is willing to sign and abide by the LTA membership agreement is welcome as a member.

All members belong both to LTA’s statewide membership organization and to their local chapter. For example, a member of LTA who lives in or near Monroe, Louisiana is a member of the LTA statewide organization and the LTA Monroe Chapter. A member of LTA who lives in Jefferson Parish is a member of the LTA statewide organization and the LTA New Orleans Chapter. Some parishes are not covered by the existing local chapters. If you don’t have a local chapter, you can form one or participate in the activities of another chapter.

*Transgender means anyone who identifies as a gender different than the gender they were assigned at birth. This term is by definition inclusive of nonbinary people, however, we name nonbinary people here specifically because of the gatekeeping they often experience in trans spaces and so that all nonbinary people know that they are welcome in this space.

Parents, Guardians, Caregivers, and Allies:

If you’re the parent, guardian, or caregiver of a trans child, youth, or young adult, sign the Caregiver Membership Agreement and then join our Facebook group for parents, guardians, and caregivers.

If you’re an ally, sign our Membership Agreement for Friends of LTA and then join our Friends of LTA Facebook group.

Membership Benefits:

Members are entitled to participate in any and all LTA events, including social support meetings, Board meetings, the annual convention, social gatherings, or any other event sponsored by LTA. Members are also entitled to access resources and social support through the LTA TGNC Members Forum Facebook group.

Members are also entitled to participate in Board meetings. State-level decisions are made by vote of the Board with standing opportunities for any members to provide their perspectives and opinions.
